Laid Off

Postby EricRyan » January 5th, 2012, 6:40 pm

So effective Friday 5pm I will no longer have a job to go to. Health insurance ends that day as well, however got 3 weeks severance pay. Anyone else been laid off over the past year? How did you handle it? How fast did you find a new job?

First, let me say that I'm really sorry to hear about your job. Hopefully you bounce back soon.

I wasn't laid off, but I was pretty much forced out of it when my past employer moved to Texas. They offered me a position in Texas and did a lot to keep me on, but I couldn't make the move. I stalled them until I found another job and left. It didn't take me too long to find a job because I've made a few great contacts. Probably a week or so.

I know it's a very different situation and that I wasn't officially laid off - but there was no chance of me moving.

Hang in there, buddy.

The last time I got laid off I wound up driving cab "in the interim" because I knew I'd find another job quick with all the telecom industry contacts I had. About 4 years later I started working at the place I'm at today (with a 6 month stint of installing Cash Registers at Duane Reades with BestInGeeksOfRageShowBrian & Runner (Don't correct my spelling, I know it's legally only one N - he just always preferred his "public persona" have 2).

Good Luck, Buddy.
I'm sure it won't be that bad for you - I just wanted to temper Ken's optimism with my tale of woe because I'm a dick like that.
